I completely disagree with increased fines, and in fact disagree with parking meters all together. What appears to have been a cash grab in the first place appears to be an even larger cash grab now. Increased fines do not deter parking violators; all it does is drive these people into Foodland, the liquor store, Home Hardware ,and other business parking lots. This forces their customers to go elsewhere and hurts their business. On more than one occasion I have gone into Foodland, and have had trouble getting a parking spot only to find there is hardly any one in the store. Why does Haliburton cover the meters at Christmas time? Because it brings more people into the town to shop. Its time for Haliburton to stop thinking nickles and dimes and take a look at Bancroft, and Minden , and many other successful towns that don`t have meters.
